Life...It's a matter of balance

So many things have been happening that I have been slacking on my upkeep of things.

Moving, new jobs and just life in general have been so dominant in my world as of late and I have let my websites fall behind. Soon things will be calming down and I will have time to add so many new things and hopefully be able keep up on it.

Stay tuned and thanks for your patience while things settle down!

*Le Sigh*

I really have been so busy that I haven't been as dedicated to the blog as I wanted. I will try to get better. Promise!

Good news though! I have updated my website Simply Enchanting Photography has had a new gallery added to it ( Life > Bands ). There you will find a band that I have photographed recently called the Black Bottom Lighters! They are awesome! You should take the time to head to their site and check them out. Great music and 5 of the greatest guys I have the pleasure of knowing!

Photo shoots, photo editing, teaching, doing my mom thing and trying to hit as many live band shows as I can lately has caused me to be incredibly busy.

Happy, but busy!

I hope to post again soon!

Eureka!

I had no idea that "Eureka!" is California's state motto. I was doing some research on an area that I would like to take some pictures of and I stumbled across that little fact. Nifty.

I absolutely see the irony of the meaning of Eureka and the fact that I "found it" amidst my research. I always did have a flair for the hilarious!

So, you might be able to do the travelling math and figure out that I am heading to California. I haven't been there in a while and it is going to be a nice family visit. I am excited to get out of the blistering Arizona heat for a few days. I swear, there have been a few days that I have walked outside and was convinced I was melting!

I have a ton of projects that I am working on right now. Client proofing, some design work for SEP, and some design work for a friend who is building his website which I will happily brag about him and my work at a later date. Not to mention my dearest daughter is heading to middle school in a couple of weeks!

So, I am keeping busy, I am keeping out of trouble....well at least mostly keeping out of trouble and I am keeping my forward motion that has been blessing me these past few months!

Off to California! Stay cool while I am gone!

Me and Albert Einstein

I am a genius. No seriously I am. STOP LAUGHING and LISTEN!

Are you listening now? Good.

I have literally hundreds of ideas a day. Not just the mundane ones like "I should eat a bagel for breakfast" kind of ideas. I am talking about "If I use Velcro to attach children's shoes to a Swiffer like material I won't have to clean the floor today" or "If I string up crystals to a light fixture, I wonder if that would make a neat light source for a photo shoot?"  kind of ideas. I never really put a cap on my crazy creativeness when I was growing up, so I still have a firm grasp on my insanity.

My crazy serves me well. It enables me to think outside of the box. Not just in my personal day to day life, but also for my professional photography life. It gives me the ability to brainstorm and then implement some really daring, but awesome promotions, photo shoots and products for my clients. These ideas challenge me. When I am challenged I am a better photographer. I also become a better person.

Today was a great thinking day and I had a great idea. Now let's see if it was a good idea or am I crazy....

See, me and Albert Einstein, I get him!

Girls love to decorate!

The theme of my life for the last 2 weeks has been change! Serious change.

I got a new hair color....
I redecorated my bedroom, which I am *not* going to share with you because, well, it's private.
And last, but certainly not least by any means, I have spent quite a bit of time decorating my new website. That's right...Simply Enchanting Photography has a new home on the world wide web!

I have to tell you, I am thrilled with the direction and the flow that SEP has been taking. Everything has been clicking into place exactly when I needed it to and how I needed it to. It is truly a wondrous feeling!

Even though I have finished those 3 major projects, I still have so much work to do. I plan on being happily busy for quite some time. My photo shoots alone have me grinning from ear to ear!

Thank you for hanging around while I was getting this kicked up and ready to go. I hope you all stick around to see the new and exciting directions I plan on going! It should be a fun and wild ride!

Blessings,
Desiree'

Growth spurt

SEP is growing already. I am usually all about baby steps when starting a huge adventure like starting a new company, but there are just some things you should go big on as soon as you can. Initial financial investments might be difficult at first, but have the potential to pay off in the near future.

That being said, I have made some very wise and sound financial investments into my company. New equipment, software and a brand new website (that I will be revealing in the very near future) have allowed me to give my company a boost to jump start my success.

Stay tuned for more to come....

SEP needs a home!

On the world wide web that is....

I love my facebook SEP page and I am okay with this one, but I want a nice new pretty home!

The problem? I have seen so many perfect places for me that I cannot decide on which one will be my final forever home. Not to mention I have a few web designers who have pitched me some really good ideas, but not exactly what I want.

Honestly, what does a girl have to do to find the bling, pop and wow for her company website?

*le sigh*

Art is Subjective

I had something quite interesting happen to me today. In the midst of working on various projects I received a few instant messages from people in regard to my pictures posted on my SEP Facebook page.

One picture got several very different reactions that ranged from disgust to adoration. I was quite surprised at the negative reactions. Not only because  the comments were about the pictures I had taken, but because I have seen similar pictures for decades now and had never been witness to such unfavorable opinions.

It took me a few minutes to really think about what was being said to me and process without getting offended. All of a sudden a light clicked and all the bad feelings went away. I remembered that even though I was taking a portrait picture, it is still art. Art is subjective. Different people see different things as art. Which is fantastic if you think about it because it would honestly suck if everyone liked the same pieces. Where would the world be if all we ever saw were paintings of roses in vases or dogs playing poker? Variety is key and I am okay with that.

I am okay with someone not liking my pictures. The only people that need to be happy with the photographs I take are myself and the client. If someone else appreciates them, wonderful! I am happy that I could invoke a good emotion from someone looking at my work. If someone doesn't care for it or finds it offensive, they have the ability to close the browser window, turn their head away from the print or refuse to look at my portfolio any further.

I am okay with that too because art is subjective and I am an artist!

Event Photography

Taking pictures at any kind of major event can be tough. The sheer volume of people can make capturing great pictures difficult. Now add in a huge gaming tournament and you will feel my pain.

I am up to the challenge and I am even enjoying it. I will post pictures soon!

Take time to smell the Roses!

Vacations are awesome. Some of my greatest memories are from family vacations. Not to mention the pictures. It is always a good thing to head to different places and see things from new perspectives.

For the next 2 weeks my family and I are headed to Oswego & Buffalo, New York for vacation. I am quite excited as part of it will be a working vacation when I have a few photo shoots, but I am also looking forward to putting the camera down for a bit and take some time to relax and enjoy visiting with family and friends.

I will still be keeping up and posting here. I will still be working. But, I will also use the time to relax. I promise!

The necessary evil

I have witnessed evil today. I even had to take part in it. It was torture and I am not sure I will ever be the same.
What is this evil I speak of you ask?
Paperwork. No, I am not kidding. Wait! Hold on! I'm serious!
The paperwork that encompasses starting your own business is endless. If you have ever signed mortgage documents you get a general idea of what I am talking about. There is so much that you need to fill out, give endless details about and sign that your hand cramps so bad that you lose feeling in your entire arm.

I suppose I could have filled all of the forms out on line, but I am still an old fashioned kind of woman. I like working with people face to face. I am a photographer after all. One downfall though, to my never ending need to keep that one on one personal touch in my life is that most things that you would do in person are tedious and take twice as long as using current technology.

There is a huge bonus to doing these kinds of things in person that definitely makes all of the work and time worth it though. Networking. You cannot network with your computer monitor and keyboard as you are filling forms out on the computer. You can, however, chat up the kind lady who is at the front desk whose boyfriend is moving here from Colorado in a week and would love to have their pictures taken together when he gets here. The woman who gives you the forms and tells you what to do with them when you are done filling them out who has two children and her daughter has a baby on the way and she loved hearing about your Baby's First Year Package that might make a great gift. And last but not least the gentlemen who you gave the completed forms to who is a motorcycle rider and wants some pictures done of him, his son and his bike.
All of those conversations could not have happened if I had stayed home and filled forms out on line.
The lesson for today....Face evil and your reward can be great.

Ready. Set. Create!

Pretty good title for my first post, don't you think?

I have to tell you, I was kind of hesitant to starting a blog for SEP. Making a blog puts some pressure on you to really put forth an effort every day! Every day you have to network. Every day you have to find beauty. Every day you have to share some piece of you with the world. The more I thought about starting this blog, I got a bit nervous and started doubting myself. Then about a half a second later, I got over it and realized that those things I mentioned are absolutely no problem to make an every day thing for me. I already do them every day! Now I just get to do them on a more extensive stage...the world wide web.

I am glad that you stopped by and were here for the start of it all. I just love beginnings. They are so exciting!
